I had bought a Kensington Bluetooth USB adapter a while back. I bought it to transfer some stuff to my phone for which I lost the USB connection cable. I used the adapter only for a small time time at the start. After a long gap, I tried using it again on a new laptop with Windows XP. Immediately after connecting, Windows XP identified it as a Blutooth device and asked for automatically downloading and installing the driver. I said OK, since I did not know where I had placed the original CD which came with the device. The installation was successful and I could see my phone on the list of devices. But I could not transfer files to the phone which is what I wanted. I also did not like the interface where only one file could be transferred at a time and there was no mention of where the file is going into the phone. The interface which came with Kensington came had a nice File Browser just like a USB memory drive.
I tried searching the net for Kensington software and found several versions available online. I un-installed the Microsoft installed drivers and then installed those downloaded. But each of them gave an error saying that I do not have the license to use that software.
So I searched and found my old software CD which came with the USB device and tried installing the software from there. Even this one gave the same license error. I tried several re-installs, restarts, plugging and unplugging the device and nothing helped. I even tried deleting some entries from registry which had the word Bluetooth in it. All this time the software did not even recognize the device.
As a final try I tried connecting the device and when Windows said it found a new hardware, I directed it to look for the driver in the CD drive where I had the CD which came with the device. It found the drive and installed something. And by magic, the Bluetooth icon became white from red. I could then connect to the phone and browse my files. I had some different kind of errors popping from file explorer while browsing which I think is because of my fiddling with registry earlier. I need to fix them now. But the file browser is working great and I could transfer files.
When I reinstalled OS once again the bluetooth device gave problem. The microsoft support page at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883258 helped uninstalling the windows bluetooth drivers and getting the Kensington device and software to work again.
For the last one week, whenever I tried to start a new mail message from Microsoft Outlook the window for composing the message opened up full screen maximized. I have a big monitor and I have to resize it every time to a reasonable size. I tried keeping it small before closing Outlook. But Outlook never seemed to remember the size. This was annoying. I remembered that I used full screen to view a Word document recently. So I opened Word again, which came out again full screen, resized it to a regular size and then closed it. Then again I opened Outlook and then tried starting a new message. It finally opened in normal size just like Word.
