போன மாதம் சில நாட்களில் தான் பொறுமையாக ஒரு முழு பேஸ்பால் ஆட்டம் பார்த்தேன். நியூயார்க் யாங்கீஸும் பாஸ்டன் ரெட் சாக்ஸும் (எங்கிருந்து தான் பெயர் வைக்கிறார்களோ) மோதிக் கொள்வது கொஞ்சம் இந்தியா பாகிஸ்தான் மோதுவது போல. நாமும் கிரிக்கெட் பார்த்து ரொம்ப நாள் ஆச்சே அப்படி என்ன தான் இந்த ஆட்டத்தில் ஆடுகிறார்கள் என்று உட்கார்ந்து பார்த்தேன்.

கிரிக்கெட்டில் நூற்றுக்கணக்கில் ரன்களை பார்த்து விட்டு இவர்கள் ஒன்று இரண்டு என்று எடுப்பது ரொம்பவே போரடித்தது. நின்னா குத்தம் உக்காந்தா குத்தம்னு பேட்ஸ்மேன் என்ன செய்தாலும் அவுட்னு சொல்லி அனுப்பி விடுகிறார்கள். பாதி ரூல்ஸ் இன்னும் புரியவே இல்லை. பிட்ச்சர் (பெளலர்) க்ளோசப்பில் நின்று பந்தை முழு பலத்துடன் எரிகிறார். பேட்ஸ்மேன் இந்த வேகத்தில் பேட்டை ஓங்குவதற்கு கூட நேரம் இல்லாததால் அதை தூக்கிக் கொண்டே நிற்கிறார். ஆனாலும் பாதி நேரம் காற்றைத்தான் கிழிக்கிறார். இது போல நேராக வந்த மூன்று பந்தை விட்டு விட்டால் அவுட். கிரிக்கெட்டிலும் இது போல ஒரு ஓவர் ரன் எடுக்கா விட்டால் அவுட் என்றால் நன்றாக இருக்கும்.

பீல்டிங் செய்பவர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் ஒரு கிளவுஸ்.. ஒரு கேட்ச் விடுவதில்லை. அதிசயமாக பந்தை அடித்து விட்டால் கட்டாயம் ஓடியாக வேண்டும். ரன் எடுக்கும் போது பேஸை தொடும் முன்னால் பந்தை பேட்ஸ்மேன் மேல் எரிந்தாலும் அவுட். ஹெல்மெட் ரொம்ப முக்கியம். பந்தை முன் பக்கம் தான் அடிக்க வேண்டும். பின்னால் அடித்தால் ரன் கிடையாது. கிரிக்கெட்டில் சிக்ஸ் அடிப்பது போல அடித்தால் தான் இங்கு ஒரு ரன். இந்த லட்சணத்தில் பேட் ஒரு கிரிக்கெட் ஸ்டம்ப் அளவுகுத்தான் அகலம் இருக்கிறது. அப்புறம் துப்புவதில் என்ன ரூலோ தெரியவில்லை, யாரைப் பார்த்தாலும் தூ தூ என்று எச்சில் துப்பிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறார்கள். கேமரா க்ளோசப்பில் வரும் வரை காத்திருந்து உடனே துப்புவார்களோ என்னவோ.

அப்புறம் இவர்கள் செய்யும் சென்டிமென்டுகள் ஸ்ரீகாந்த் செய்ததை மிஞ்சி விடும். ஒருவர் ஒவ்வொரு பந்துக்கும் முன்னால் வித்தியாசமாக கைகளை சுற்றுவார். அப்புறம் யாங்கீஸ் ஆடும் போது எட்டாவது இன்னிங்ஸில் ஒருவரை மைக்கில் பாட அழைத்து விடுவார்கள். அவர் பாடும் அழகில் எதிரி அணி மயங்கி தோற்று விடுவார்கள் என்று நம்பிக்கையோ என்னவோ. ஆனால் இவர் பாடிய பிறகு முன்னிலையில் இருந்த ரெட் சாக்ஸ் அணி தோற்றது என்னவோ உண்மை. ஒவ்வொரு ஆட்டம் ஆரம்பிக்கும் முன்னாலும் ஏதோ சாபத்தை போக்க என்னவோ செய்வார்கள் என்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.

சாயந்திரமாக ஆரம்பித்து ஒரு மூன்று மணி நேரத்தில் ஆடி முடித்து விடுகிறார்கள். இரண்டு அணியினரும் மூன்று அவுட்டிற்குப் பிறகு மாறி மாறி ஆடுகிறர்கள். இது போல ஒன்பது இன்னிங்ஸ். ஆட்ட முடிவில் யார் ஜெயித்தாலும் தோற்றாலும் மைதானத்தை சுற்றிலும் ரசிகர்கள் ஒரு ரகளை செய்யாமல் வீட்டிற்குப் போவதில்லை. அப்புறம் எந்த போட்டி நடந்தாலும் அதை உலகக்கோப்பை என்று தான் சொல்கிறார்கள். உலகத்தில் வேறு எங்கும் இதை ஆடுகிறார்களா தெரியவில்லை.

ம்ம். கிரிக்கெட் பார்த்து ரொம்ப நாளாச்சு.

நான் முதன் முதலில் வலையில் பிரவேசித்தது பெங்களூர் இந்தியன் இன்ஸ்ட்டிடியூட் ஆப் சயன்சில் படிக்கும் பொழுது. சென்னையில் அண்ணாவில் படிக்கும் போது இன்டெர்நெட் வசதி இருந்தது. ஆனால் கல்லூரி மொத்தத்திற்கும் ஒரே ஒரு கணிணியில் தான் இன்டெர்நெட் வசதி இருந்தது. அத்துடன் அதற்கு பணமும் கட்ட வேண்டியிருந்ததால் அமெரிக்காவிற்கு மேல் படிப்பு படிக்க போக விரும்பிய சிலர் மட்டும் அதை உபயோகப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

பெங்களூரிலும் கல்லூரியில் ஏனோ இன்டெர்நெட்டிற்கு அவ்வளவு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கவில்லை. படிப்பு வேலைகளினால் நேரம் இல்லாமல் இருந்தது ஒரு முக்கிய காரணம். மற்றபடி கணிணியை சரளமாக உபயோகப் படுத்தக் கற்றுக்கொண்டது அங்கே தான். எந்த பாடத்தை எடுத்தாலும் கணிணி உபயோகப்படுத்தி செய்ய வேண்டிய அசைன்மென்ட் இல்லாமல் இருக்காது. அத்துடன் முக்கிய வேலைக்கான எல்லா கணிணியிலும் யுனிக்ஸ் தான் நிறுவி வைத்திருந்தார்கள்.

அப்புறம் பெங்களூரில் சாஸ்கென் நிறுவனத்தில் முழு நேர ப்ரொகிராமராக சேர்ந்து கணிணி வாழ்க்கையோடு ஒன்றி விட்டது. இதுவரை படித்த பிடித்த சிக்னல் ப்ராசசிங் துறையிலியே எல்லா வேலையும் இருக்கிறது. இப்பொழுது அமெரிக்கா வந்து மேத்வொர்க்ஸ் நிறுவனத்திலும் அதே துறையில் சேர்ந்தாயிற்று.

இங்கு வந்தவுடன் வீட்டில் கணிணி வாங்கி அதில் முக்கால் வாசி நேரம் செஸ் விளையாட்டு தான் ஆடிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். உங்களுக்கு செஸ் விளையாட்டில் ஆர்வம் இருந்தால் ப்ரீ செஸ் என்னும் வலைத்தளத்தில் உள்ள மென்பொருளை நிறுவி என்னுடன் விளையாட வரலாம்.
அப்புறம் அவ்வப்போது கொஞ்ச நேரம் இந்த மாதிரி வலைப்பூ பக்கங்களை நிறப்புவதிலும் செலவு செய்கிறேன்.

Sometimes it is really annoying to see the software doing something else when we want it to behave like what we wanted. I have set my browser homepage to google.com. When I want to visit some site I open the browser, click on the address bar and start typing without looking at the screen. I will look up after finishing typing only to see that the focus has changed somewhere else midway. Now I have to select the address bar again and type looking at the screen after every word to make sure it goes where I wanted to.

Same annoyance goes to some form edit areas too. I open yahoo mail and start typing id and password. Before the page loads I would have finished the id and gone to password using the keyboard shortcut TAB to switch between form elements. But the browser usually completes loading the page at this time and promptly switches the focus to the user id and without looking at the screen I will be typing my password in there.

Off course the pop-ups were the most annoying thing in the browser world. But thanks to the pop-up stoppers like the one in google toolbar it is a big relief now. Animations within the page are the next thing. I cant imagine clicking on those fast moving meaningless ads on web pages. Thankfully most of these can be disabled too.

My annoyance list for browsers are

1. Changing focus arbitrarily
2. Pop-ups
3. Fast moving ads
4. Adding junk to mouse movements like a tail
5. Opening links in new windows unnecessarily when I can do that myself
6. Changing browser sizes without asking
7. Asking stupid questions using javascript
8. Having unreadable combination of background and foreground colors
9. Using cookies and telling you that you have not been there for a while
10. Disabling/messing with right clicks as if that protects their content

My blog pages may not be the best looking but does not have the above features.

I started picking up audio books from library. It is very convenient to listen to books while driving. Since it is the same route everyday to office, there is not much distraction. If there are distractions there is always rewind. This is faster than my regular reading. I should also buy more audio books. It has lots of conveniences like easy storage and transport. There are some websites which allow direct download of audio books after purchasing.
Since I knew about TTS engines, I thought I can create some audio CDs myself using the text to speech converters like ReadPlease. But the sound is tough to listen, for long periods and since it is without any modulations it will be hard to understand while driving. Meanwhile, there are many more good books in the library yet to be listened to.

I hate internet worms. Yeah everybody does that. My problem is my yahoo mail box size. I get around 50 spam mails in my yahoo account everyday. Once in a week I will just skim through the bulk mail folder and empty them. But after the worms came the mails started coming with around 100-150k attachments. This eats up my mail quota pretty fast. In 2 or 3 days my mail box becomes full. If I am travelling then I get only the first 3 days mail with 90% of it filled with spam. If yahoo gives an option to automatically delete bulk mail more frequently it will be nice.

மக்களுக்கு ஏற்ற வகையில் பொருட்களை வடிவமைப்பதில் டச்சுக்காரர்களை மிஞ்ச முடியாது போலிருக்கிறது, ஆண்களுடைய டாய்லெட் சிங்கில் எப்போதும் சுற்றிலும் சுத்தம் இல்லாமல் இருந்தது. பொது இடங்களில் உள்ள டாய்லெட்களில் பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் கவனம் இல்லாமல் சிங்க் பற்றி கவலைப்படாமல் சுற்றிலும் அசுத்தம் செய்து வைதிருந்தார்கள். யார் மூளையிலோ உதித்த யோசனை சிங்கில் ஒரு ஈ படத்தை ஒட்டி வைத்தார்கள். எல்லோரும் ஒழுங்காக அதன் மேல் சென்று விட்டு போனார்கள். ஆண்கள் மனதை நன்றாக புரிந்து வைத்திருக்கிறர்கள். இந்த விசயத்தைப் பற்றி மேலும் படிக்க இங்கே செல்லவும்.

Life will be very painful if you dont have money. It will be worse if you are poor and sick. Even worse if you can not get medical help cheap.
